“What kind of ceremony do you imagine having?”

This is one of the first questions you will discuss with Reverend Rebecca A. Nagy, a non-denominational, interfaith minister, who has performed nearly 1800 ceremonies over the last 12 years. “Do you want a ceremony that reflects your faith tradition, or something that’s spiritual but not overly religious, maybe a little of both, or something in-between?” This is only one of the questions Reverend Nagy will be interested in as she learns about you when you meet with her to talk about the most important day of your life.

Whether you choose a traditional, religious, interfaith, or civil service, she believes your ceremony should reflect your personality and style. Reverend Nagy says, “You can gain such insight into the hearts of a couple by listening to them tell their story --- it’s always exciting, and I value each couple’s uniqueness.”

The crafting of your ceremony begins before you meet with Rev. Nagy with a few questions she emails to you to ponder and talk about at your next meeting. Then you’ll discuss other options – do you want a Commemorative Candle? A Unity Candle? Another ritual from your faith or culture? She also has numerous vow and reading ideas to make it as stress free as possible! And relax – you don’t have to memorize anything!

“I think what has surprised me the most over the years has been the anniversary cards and emails that I get from the couples that I have married the year before! They tell me how, on their anniversary they have pulled out the copy of their ceremony and cried and laughed all over again while eating that frozen bit of wedding cake. That’s when I know that I’ve made some contribution to the start of their lives, and feel truly blessed.”

Graduating from Sancta Sophia Seminary and earning a lifetime ordination through the International Council of Community Churches, Reverend Rebecca A. Nagy also holds the titles of professional speaker and published author, being a member of the National Speaker’s Association, the International Women’s Writer’s Guild, and maintains close connection with the wedding world as a board member of the National Association of Catering Executives – Charlotte Chapter.
